Before You Say Good-Bye, Say Thank You

Sunday, December 28th, 2014

sunsetIn a few days, the sun will set on 2014 and the focus will shift to new beginnings and hopes of a prosperous and happy new year. With resolutions abundant and motivations high, our energy propels us forward. But wait…not so fast! Are we so quick to forget 2014? I hear a resounding YES! It’s true, often we’re anxious to wipe the slate clean and forget the difficulties, the disappointments, the supposed failures and what ifs of life. We often forget to celebrate the successes and the fruits of our labor as well.

I encourage you to take some time to reflect, to pause, and to honor this past year. Why you ask? Because every event of your life is a gift for you to unwrap and receive its blessing. And you deserve to celebrate YOU for all of your complexities, your shortcomings, your humanness, your gifts, your magic! So before you say good-bye, say thank you to a year filled with people, events, memories, and moments that created a perfectly orchestrated symphony of a beautiful 2014 that’s uniquely YOU.

In the spirit of gratitude, take time for a sitting or walking meditation reflecting on all the wonderful things you’ve experienced this year. What new blessings did you receive? What lessons did you learn? What new people entered your life? What new skills did you acquire? What did you let go of? How did you improve your life? How did your presence improve the life of others? What made you happy? What do you want more of…less of?

And what of the challenges and difficulties – are you able to see their gifts too? Experience and wisdom help us to move with grace through these times and to understand that sometimes, a rejection is just a redirection.

God, Buddha, Great Spirit, Universe (insert higher power of choice)
has 3 answers to your prayers:

1) Yes
2) Not yet
3) I have something better in mind

So whether 2014 was a great year or a bomb, say good-bye with gratitude and with a renewed energy, move forward into the new year with greater clarity and purpose. Empowered by a grateful heart and the wisdom of reflection, your new year awaits YOU!
