What inspires you? What makes your heart sing? Taking time out of a busy life for retreat is essential for wellness but it’s also an opportunity to awaken awareness and discover the riches within. Like Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso and many other artists, they found inspiration in the beautiful landscapes and picturesque villages of Provence. But it was the extraordinary light with a clarity that defines everything and the sun’s rays illuminating the fields and architecture that brought out their deepest gifts. Provence is one of the most magical areas in the world offering an abundance of sensory delights inspiring artists, writers, chefs, and nature lover’s for centuries. With the benefits of quieting our busy minds through yoga and meditation and the stunning region of Provence provoking our senses, we expand our ability to be present, awakened and inspired.

Move mindfully at your own pace and enjoy a relaxed and heart-centered week that’s loosely structured so you can do as little or as much as you’d like. Yoga classes, meals and included excursions are planned but always optional; The rest of the time is yours to rest at the villa, go on excursions or enjoy the in-house spa treatments.
Yoga will be offered each morning before breakfast. In the late afternoon, a light yoga and meditation class will help you become more centered and connected. Appropriate for beginning and intermediate level students, classes emphasize the wisdom in honoring your strengths and limitations and to be grateful for all that your body can do. The villa offers a beautiful studio with heated floors, as well as two terraces for yoga sessions. All classes are taught by Lisa Hampton.
Delicious vegetarian meals using the freshest of what’s in season and the regions specialties will be offered. The flavors of the Mediterranean, Italy and France are blended to create sumptuous meals. Meat and fish options will be available upon request. Local cheeses, breads and wines and other delights will be enjoyed, as well as plenty of healthy choices. Meals will be enjoyed on the terrace in the shade of the oak trees, or served by candlelight under the pergola or on the veranda.
Excursion to Gorges du Verdon
We’ll take a day trip to the largest canyon in Europe spectacularly sitting between white rocks and emerald lakes. The tour touches some picturesque villages along the way and we’ll have lunch in one of the most charming in Provence, Moustiers-Saint-Marie. On the way back, we’ll visit Tourtour, the highest village in the Var with breathtaking views.
Excursion to Cotignac
Our day trip takes us to the beautiful village of Cotignac which sits in the trees at the base of its famous cliffs where we’ll stroll through the streets, shop at the morning market and enjoy a relaxing lunch. Afterwards, we’ll visit one of the best examples of the spirit of the Cisterician order, The Abbey of Thoronet.
Scenic Walks and Bicycle Rides
Enjoy nature’s generosity and walk amidst the vineyards and Mediterranean maquis or take a bicycle ride to explore the surrounding areas directly from the Bastide. The healing power of nature is undeniable and connecting with the earth and natural world will energize mind, body and soul.
Wine and Cheese Tasting
A local vintner will visit our Villa to offer tastes of several Cote du Provence wines all paired with delicious French cheeses.
Bastide Avellanne is a charming fortified Provencal demure from the 17th century. Totally refurbished in 2011, this luxurious villa welcomes you with spacious and light rooms in country-style, all with modern en-suite bathrooms and fireplaces, as well as independent apartments with every comfort. In the Bastide you will find a vast air conditioned lounge with old leather sofas, a stone chimney, exposed beams and a bar, and a dining room in the veranda overlooking the garden.
Bastide Avellanne is situated only 30 minutes from the sea and the Cote D’Azur between Cannes, St. Tropez and Hyeres. It is also close to the National Park of Gorges du Verdon and to the most picturesque Provencal villages, as well as the 11th century Abbey of Thoronet, all waiting for you to explore!
